Album: Karnataka, South India in 2001
My favorite state in India, and a highlight of my year of travels. From ancient ruins left from the start of the Hindu empire, to hidden white sand beaches, bamboo huts, pristine forest, and an IT technology explosion. Beaches of Gokarna plus Hampi, Bangalore, Mysore, Bandipur and Nagarhole National Park, plus Ooty (which is actually in Tamil Nadu, but felt like Karnataka too). If you visit India I highly recommend visiting this part of the country.

Album: Goa, India 2000/2001
Goa is the ultimate traveler's destination. White sand beaches and quiet villages, trance rave parties and rice fields. Banyan trees. Villages and beaches of: Arambol, Mandrem, Vagator, Anjuna, Baga, and Palolem. Plus some pictures from a few full moon parties.

The great Taj Mahal, a Muslim masterpiece and a symbol of love in peaceful northern India.

Album: Rajasthan with many colors
The Thar desert town of Jaisalmer, near the Pakistan border; Holi Festival in the state capital, Jaipur, plus a week in Udaipur, where a James Bond movie was filmed, holy Pushkar, and finally, celebrating Diwali in the fort town of Chittorgarh.

Album: Varanassi, the City of Lights
Possibly the most holy city in India, and a focal point of the sacred river Ganges. This city is perhaps the greatest assalt to one's senses of anywhere in the entire world. I could only take 3 days of it; it is everthing India, good and bad in the extreme.

Album: Tamil Nadu in South India
Some delightful hill stations and national parks are in Tamil Nadu, from the Ooty hill station to Bandipur and Nagrihole national parks, where I saw wild elephants and heard wild tigers in the distance. Also discovered a town of foreigners, Auroville, that has had self-governance since the 1960s (with mixed results).

Some pictures of Bombay, including famous destinations for Indians and tourists like, like Chowpatty Beach and Mahatma Ghandi House, where Ghandi was murdered. Also some pictures of Osho's Medication Commune in Pune and the majestic Ajanta Caves, which are many thousands of years old.

A stay in South Delhi, the richest suberb of New Delhi. I stayed with friends in the ground floor of their 3-story house.

Kerala is often described as "God's Country" in Indian tourist ads, and is the honeymoon state in south India.
