This is not the Banyan Tree but rather a different tree with interesting roots. It's actually a strangler fig.

The water at the botanical gardens in Calcutta (India) looked interesting... yup I think those are lily pads.

This guy insisted that I take his photo. I think he'd like to become a movie star.

Just a picture of a crazy-busy street near Chowringhee in Calcutta. Chowringhee overall was much quieter and easy-going than the traveler's hangout in New Delhi, Paharganj, and a bit nicer than than the waterfront of Mumbai (Bombay) too. I should have taken a picture of those places to compare...

Another great banyan tree, this one with two Hindu temples surround it which I liked to visit. Note the different types of leaves growing off the same tree.

The entranceway to another world, or someone's home? Knock three times before entering? This is one of the most unusual banyan trees I've ever seen.

Wow. I could stare at this tree for hours! Fascinating to wonder what it would like if it had more room to expand. Found on a motorbike road, on the way to Arambol from the Siolim Ferry in northern Goa. Next to two Hindu temples.

This is perhaps my favorite bayan tree, south of Arambol next to two Hindu temples. If ever one were to tunnel inside a great tree...

A banyan tree that looks like it's either sad, or missing something. Found somewhere in Vietnam, location unknown.

Freakishly powerful root system, found in the middle of Hanoi. Click twice for the full-size picture.

Fascinating, excellent Banyan Tree with a very interesting tale to tell... perhaps of the of history in this part of Hanoi. Look at it closely, I see faces and people in it. Utterly devine. Click twice for full-size. Taken in Hanoi, Vietnam in autumn, 2001.

Hanoi's version of the great Banyan Tree. Beautiful and unique, especially as found in the middle of this great big city.

This is the famous Thomas Edison banyan tree from Ft. Myers, Florida (USA). Big thanks to Linda and Darryl Russell for taking this photo and sending it to me!
