The smallest hotel room I have ever stayed in. A tiny single bed sandwiched with walls on three corners, and about a foot of space to stand up (sideways) when you walk in. I paid $3 bucks for this room, window with bars free of charge. I had to walk through a welding shop and then climb up the stairs to get to it. In Ho Chi Minh at the time (fall 2002) it was a steal!

It's not the American military guns and equipment I found so disturbing. They're only what's outside, to fill up the space. (continued)

It's the stuff you find inside. Here, let's step in for a moment. This picture shows how most of the doors are "drawn" in. Inside are the torture chambers. (continued)

And inside the other buildings are the Remants. Pieces of human beings left over after chemical warfare, napalm, Agent Orange, fetuses in jars with no arms or two heads. People of all ages with deformities, no arms, no legs, no eyes. Picture of an American soldier holding up a shreaded human being and laughing. Jesus M'f Christ!!!! (end of interview)

The floating bar. You are not allowed to refuse a drink. If you refuse a drink, you have to take two. I made my first trip out to the bar without a life preserver. I'm pretty good at treading water. I think for liability reasons (it was a big tour company) they insisted that I wear the straight-, err, I mean, life-jacket.

We found a kind man who gave us a tour of his home and village just outside of Hoi An. He takes foreigners into his home on a 'donation' basis and it was absolutely one of the highlights of the trip.

That's our 'guide' (for lack of a better term) in the white shirt. Very nice man. He spent the whole day with us, taking us around his village

A toast to some very friendly people. I think we toasted each other. They were incredibly kind and had invited us to drink with them. We couldn't speak a common language so well but it didn't matter. They were great people.

What is redbeet?

This is my retro website, a homepage that dates back to the day when the Web was still coded with text editors, well-worn keyboards, elbow grease and Unix servers... the guts all neatly hidden from sight thanks to hyperlinks.
