Goa is a small state on the southwest coast of the Indian subcontinent. It's known for its beautiful beaches, friendly people, and a casual atmosphere. There are dozens of beaches catering to every type of traveler out there, from resort-dwellers looking for creature comforts to backpackers looking for the more common bamboo shack accomodation, and the beach environment can be as quiet or as active and loud as you like. Goa was once a Portugese colony and therefore has a wide variety of foods found nowhere else in India. Goa is also the origin of a type of electronic music known as Goa Trance, and during the busy season (November to March) you can experience some of the best psychedelic trance parties anywhere in the world. The parties aren't for everyone however, just as India isn't for everyone, or just as a luxurious resort or a lonesome walk down a quiet beach isn't for everyone. Goa is just another side of a multifaced, multicultural India, just as the Himalayan regions of northern India are different from the backwater canals of the Keralan south, and the rich Bengali history of the east is different from the isolated heat of Rajasthan's Thar desert in the west. There is much to experience and enjoy in India!

This is where I stayed for nearly a month, with an ocean view, wind and waves, and past the lake is one of the most peaceful beaches in the entire world. Just take the bridge there.
