Ghost Town of Chernobyl is Elena's website where she talks about her motorbike rides through Chernobyl. Tens years after the world's worst nuclear accident, she offers a personal view of life, death, and what it means to live near one of the most radioactive places on earth. Very interesting and informative. I am fascinated by nuclear radiation and how it affects our lives. A NY Times article called Me and My Geiger counter might get you interested in Geiger counters too. I'm going to buy one soon and pair it with a GPS when I travel... yes this is extremely geeky but I truly believe terrorists will explode a "dirty bomb" in the U.S., filled with nuclear waste, and I'd like to be prepared for new (albeit, low) levels of Gamma radiation. Did you know that smoking causes hearing loss? On top of all the health problems with smoking, here is long-term scientific proof that smoking also causes hearing loss. I'm not sure why this hasn't been made more public. My grandfather died from emphysema (from smoking) and I know how bad smoking is. The speech accent archive contains sound clips for English accents all over the world. It's a pretty fun way to waste 30 minutes or more going through this site. Ecstacy causes brain damage. Well, duh. But it's all relative, and MDMA (which was once prescribed by doctors for marriage counseling) is not that bad of a drug. Here's a guy who took 40,000 Ecstacy pills over nine years (some of which were MDMA, to varying degrees). He has brain damage of course, but what is remarkable is how well he is doing otherwise. Amazing. Here's a fun little Flash-based board game. If you try it out, you'll play it for at least 20 minutes I bet.

What is redbeet? This is my retro website, a homepage that dates back to the day when the Web was still coded with text editors, well-worn keyboards, elbow grease and Unix servers... the guts all neatly hidden from sight thanks to hyperlinks.
